Prevention is at the heart of everything we do at Brentwood Orthodontic & Implant Centre. Our hygienists play a very important role within our team, being mainly concerned with preventative dental health and treating gum disease, showing you correct ways to look after your teeth at home.
One of the most pleasant aspects of visiting our hygienist is receiving a clean and polish using the latest equipment and a very gentle technique. After the treatment your mouth will feel fresher and your teeth will look brighter.
You can book in with the hygienist at any time; just speak with your dentist or ask at reception for further details.
Along with the dentist, our hygienist will provide oral hygiene advice including dietary advice, home mouth care, the use of fluoride and all the latest gadgets which will help maintain your oral health.
Hygienists are trained to help you improve or maintain the health of your gums and most people will see the hygienist two or three times a year. Regular visits will ensure your gums remain as healthy and strong as possible.
Sometimes, for more advance cases of gum disease, careful treatment planning may be necessary and this can involve a course of several longer visits. At these visits, our hygienist will gently and thoroughly clean the diseased areas of the mouth that cannot be reached easily by you at home.
Through a combination of our skill and care, plus your own oral hygiene efforts at home, you can ensure your teeth and gums remain in tip-top condition for life. Instead of filling decayed teeth, we believe in investing time improving your oral care routine. This way all our patients can maintain a healthy, happy mouth.
At Brentwood Orthodontic & Implant Centre we use the latest in dental technology to ensure your mouth is in tip-top health. Airflow® is a clever tooth polisher and teeth cleaning system that will rejuvenate your smile, whilst giving your teeth an amazing shine!
Airflow® is more advanced than a traditional scale and polish, cleaning even the out of reach areas of your mouth. If you have found your teeth are starting to discolour from things like tea, coffee and smoking, the Airflow® system is the perfect solution.

Gum diseases is caused by plaque, a film of bacteria that forms on the surface of the teeth and gums every day. Most of the bacteria is completely harmless, but some can cause gum disease. To prevent the build up of plaque and protect your gums it is important that you floss and brush your teeth everyday.
There are two main forms of gum disease:
Gingivitis - If you have gingivitis the gums around your teeth will become very red and swollen and often the gums will bleed when you are cleaning your teeth.
Periodontal disease - If gingivitis is left untreated it can progress into a more serious condition called periodontitis, where the deeper structures of the tooth, jawbone and the connecting ligaments can be destroyed and may result in the loss of a tooth.
Unfortunately, gum disease progresses painlessly which is why we recommend regular dental hygienist appointments. If the disease is left untreated for a long time, treatment can become more difficult.
